Squirt C White Place 2nd in White Bear Lake Tournament

By Shane Petrich 01/18/2015, 3:00pm CST

The team started out on Friday against one of the hosting teams, the White Bear Squirt C Orange.  White Bear opened the game with the first goal, but then MVI came back to tie it up.  MVI went on to score 2 more unanswered goals in the second period and just kept the pressure on.  White Bear made a run and scored one last goal, but the MVI team kept them locked down to come away with the 3-2 win.

On Saturday, MVI faced the Roseville Squirt C Black team.  They were looking for some pay-back after a previous loss early this season in district play.  But MVI was up for the challenge only allowing 1 of the 11 shots in at the last minute.  The team came away with a 2-1 victory and it was off to the championship round.

The championship pitted MVI against the Stillwater Stallions (currently #1 in the district). MVI took the game to the Stallions and made them work, but they came away with the 4-0 victory.

Another great representation for the Mounds View / Irondale Youth Hockey Associations.

Great job team.

Squirt C White take 2nd at Lake Country Classic

By Shane Petrich 12/07/2014, 9:30pm CST

This weekend the Squirt C White team took 2nd place at the Lake Country Classic Squirt C Tournament in Chisago Lakes.

On Friday the team played Chisago Lakes but came up short in a 1-3 loss.

Then on Saturday the team played an aggressive Des Moines team and battled back in the third period to score the go ahead goal in the last 4 minutes of play for a 4-3 victory.

Finally on Sunday the team matched up with the 'Pool B' Champions Lakeville South.  The teams went back and forth with out a score in regulation.  At the end, with the score tied at 0, the teams went into a shootout.  Both goalies took on 5 shooters and 1 of Lakeville South made it to the back of the net.

During the tournament there were opportunities for the players to compete in some Skills Challenges (Fastest Skater, Fastest Shooter, Most Creative Shot, and Best Goalie).  MVIYHA had a few players participate come away with some trophies of their own:

  • Michael Sauer - 2nd place in Fastest Shooter
  • Alec Tholkes - 3rd place in Most Creative Shot
  • Aidan Petrich - 2nd place for Best Goalie

The entire team performed their best and represented MVIYHA with the up-most class and sportsmanship.  If this tournament is any indication, we are going to have a great season.

Well done team.
