MVI Pee Wee C White played its final tournament of the year this weekend, competing in the Tartan Cup. MVI defeated Rogers 4-0 Saturday morning and White Bear Lake 3-0 Saturday evening, with Sid "The Kid" Bork in goal for both games. The Tartan Cup gives each team an MVP trophy to be awarded after each game and Jordan Griffin received the honors in the morning and Diego Hernandez in the evening.
MVI faced off against Apple Valley Sunday afternoon with a chance for its first tournament win but AV proved too tough on the day, winning 8-2. Gabe Krueger was named MVP for the championship game.
MVI will work to keep their recent success going as they play their final 3 District regular season games this week.
MVI Pee Wee C White has been firing on all cylinders in the January. Behind two hot goaltenders, hard work and team play, the team has won eight of their last nine games. The team took home the consolation championship from the Super C Spectacular at the Super Rink earlier this month and were consolation champs once again this past weekend at Breezy Point.
MVI PeeWee C White bounced back in their second game of the season and earned a 5-1 victory over North St. Paul. The Rauenhorst boys hustled back from a successful weekend of hunting to contribute to the win, with Daniel in net. Daniel had a shutout going until midway through the third when a breakaway occurred and a strong shot put North St. Paul on the board.
The adjustments from game one to two were evident, with a much stronger effort from the team. MVI struck early in the first with a goal from Gabe at 9:55, assisted by both Isis and Mason. In the second, Diego scored the first of his two short-handed goals unassisted at 11:15, and at 4:36 Diego added another goal with an assist from Evan. With four seconds left in the second Isis fed Mason with a great pass and Mason held the puck to freeze the goalie and put it home for 4-0 lead. MVI scored its final goal at 10:20 when Diego completed his hat-trick.
This game was a physical one by both teams and the referees had no problems locating their whistles - four penalties were called on both teams but both teams did earn their fair play points.
